unidating

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026 · Effective: 20 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how unidating ("unidating", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects information about you when you use the unidating iOS app and this website (together, the "Service"). unidating is a dating app for verified college students: every account confirms a school email before it can meet anyone.

The short version. We collect what you put in your profile and what you do in the app, so the app can work. We do not sell your personal information, we do not show ads, and we do not use your photos, profile or messages to train AI models. Your school email is used to confirm you study there and is never shown to other members. You choose who sees your Instagram, Snapchat and phone number. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account. Sign in with Apple (Apple gives us an account identifier and an email address, which can be an Apple relay address) or with an email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash by our authentication system; we never see your password. If you reset your password, we email you a one-time code.
  • School email. To unlock Meet and Messages you confirm an email address at a school on our university list. We email a 6-digit code to that address. We store a keyed hash of the code, never the code itself; a code expires after 10 minutes and allows 5 tries. When you confirm, we store the address, the date you confirmed it, your school and your member number (the order in which students at your school confirmed). Your school email address is never shown to other members. If your school is not listed, you can ask us to add it; we store the address and the school name you typed so we can tell you when it is added.
  • Date of birth. Used to confirm you are 18 or older and to show your age. We do not show the date itself.
  • Profile. Your first name, gender, photos, prompt answers, and your college profile: major, minor, class year, the classes you take this semester (course code and optional title only, never times or rooms), clubs, activities, sports, Greek life, dorm, what you are looking for (a date, a formal date, friends or a study buddy) and an optional formal event and date.
  • Contact handles. Optionally your Instagram, Snapchat and phone number. You choose who sees them: matches and friends (the default), matches only, or nobody.
  • Friends and groups. Friend requests, friendships, and the groups of two you form with a friend. You can find friends by username, with an invite link, or from your contacts. If you choose contact matching, the app turns phone numbers and email addresses into one-way hashes on your device and uploads only the hashes, never names or raw address-book values.
  • Activity. Your Meet and Skip decisions, matches, pokes, unmatches and blocks.
  • Messages. Text, photos and voice notes you send in 1:1 chats, group chats and friend chats.
  • Optional ID check. See section 4.
  • Safety reports. If you report someone, we keep the report and the related evidence, which may include part of a conversation or the profile content you reported, so we can act on it.
  • Support messages. Anything you send us through the support form, by email or through in-app feedback.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and diagnostics. Device type, iOS version, app version, and crash or diagnostic information needed to keep the app working.
  • Notifications. If you allow notifications, an app-specific push token, your notification choices, your time zone and delivery status.
  • Activity times. A coarse record of when you last used the app, used to show active people first.
  • Usage data, only if you turn it on. If you choose to share usage data, we record which app steps you reach and complete, with your app version and a pseudonymous identifier. It never includes your messages, photos, prompt answers, name, email or phone number. It is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off in Settings.

What we do not collect

  • We do not collect your precise GPS location. If you set a city, its coordinates are rounded to city level before they are stored.
  • We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • We do not use your photos, profile or messages to train artificial intelligence models.

2. How we use your information

  • To create and run your account, confirm your school, and show you to other verified students.
  • To show you people and groups, the classes you share, and how many friends you have in common.
  • To deliver matches, pokes, messages and notifications.
  • To confirm that members are 18 or older, review reports, and prevent abuse, fraud and spam.
  • To answer support requests.
  • With your permission, to see which parts of the app work and which do not. We never use it for advertising.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information.

With other members

Your profile card (first name, age, photos, school, class year, major, prompts, the classes you share with the viewer, your member number and your verified badge if you have one) is shown to verified students who include your school in their Meet. Your full college profile is shown when someone opens your profile. Verified students at your school who list the same class can see you in that class's list. Your contact handles are shown only to the people your visibility setting allows. Messages are visible to everyone in that chat. Your school email address is never shown.

With service providers

We use a small number of providers who process data for us under contract:

ProviderPurpose
ConvexBackend, database, authentication and real-time messaging
AppleApp distribution, Sign in with Apple and push notifications
ResendSending school-email and password-reset codes
StripeThe optional ID check (section 4)
OpenRouter and the AI model provider it routes toAutomated safety review of photos you upload
PostHogUsage data, only if you turn it on
NetlifyThis website and its support form

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is needed to comply with the law or a valid legal request, enforce our Terms, or protect the safety, rights or property of our members or the public.

4. Optional ID check (Stripe Identity)

The ID check is optional. If you take it, Stripe, our ID-check provider, collects a photo of your government ID and a selfie and matches your face to the photo on the ID, which is biometric data. The images never reach unidating. We keep only the result and your date of birth, which we use to confirm you are 18 or older and to show a verified badge. We ask Stripe to delete your ID photo and selfie 30 days after your result. You stay verified. You can withdraw this consent anytime from Settings.

5. Photos

Before a photo leaves your device, the app removes embedded metadata such as GPS location and camera details. Photos you upload are checked by an automated safety review before other members see them.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account in the app: Profile, then Settings, then Delete account. Deletion needs no email or website. When you delete your account, we lock it and remove or de-identify your profile, photos, school email, classes, contact hashes, matches, messages and notification records. School-email codes are deleted when they are used or expire.

Limited exceptions: if someone has reported a conversation or profile, we may keep a restricted record of the report and its evidence as long as needed to investigate, protect members and meet legal obligations, even if one of the people involved deletes their account. Stripe may keep ID-check records for the time its own legal obligations require.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict some processing. In the app you can edit your profile at any time, change who sees your contact handles, turn usage data and notifications on or off, withdraw ID-check consent and delete your account. For anything else, contact us (section 12); we respond within the time the law requires. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords and codes, and access controls. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to protect your data and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.

9. International transfers

Our providers may process and store data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where the law requires, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

10. Age requirement and children

unidating is only for people 18 and older. Sign-up refuses birthdays under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 is using unidating, tell us through the support form and we will act promptly.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.

12. Contact us

Use the support form or email support@unidating.fun. In an emergency, contact local emergency services first.
